Objective

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Content

Day 1: Introduction to Liquid Bulk Cargo Handling

• Overview of liquid bulk cargo types: Crude oil, refined products, LNG.
• Types of vessels used for bulk liquid transportation: Oil tankers, LNG carriers, and barges.
• Marine logistics: Key players, routes, and global trade.
• Safety and environmental regulations: International maritime law, MARPOL, and local regulations.

Day 2: Crude Oil Handling and Storage Operations

• Crude oil properties and classification.
• Storage terminals: Design, equipment, and operations.
• Loading and unloading procedures for crude oil: Safety checks and precautions.
• Tank farm management and crude oil quality control.
• Emergency response procedures and spill containment.

Day 3: LNG Handling and Storage Operations

• LNG properties and unique handling requirements.
• LNG storage facilities: Land-based vs. floating storage units.
• LNG loading and unloading procedures.
• Safety measures for LNG operations: Cryogenic handling, leak detection, and gas release prevention.
• LNG emergency response protocols and gas dispersion modeling.

Day 4: Marine Operations in Liquid Bulk Cargo Handling

• Tanker loading and unloading: Port procedures, berth management, and cargo control.
• Coordination between terminals, vessels, and port authorities.
• Mooring and unmooring techniques for liquid bulk carriers.
• Marine traffic management and communication protocols.
• Managing delays and operational disruptions.

Day 5: Safety, Environmental Concerns, and Risk Management

• Risk assessment and safety protocols for liquid bulk cargo handling.
• Environmental impact of crude oil and LNG transportation.
• Fire, explosion, and spill prevention in liquid cargo operations.
• Emergency response planning: Evacuation, containment, and recovery.
• Continuous improvement and risk mitigation strategies.

Pre-& Post Tests will be conducted.

Methodology

A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information and knowledge transfer. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. You will also be encouraged to raise your own questions and to share in the development of the right answers using your own analysis and experiences.  Tests of multiple-choice type will be made available on daily basis to examine the effectiveness of delivering the course.
