Introduction

This course introduces the fundamental principles and practical applications of gravity and magnetic methods used in mineral and petroleum exploration. Participants will learn how to collect, process, and interpret gravity and magnetic data to identify subsurface geological structures, potential mineral deposits, and petroleum reservoirs. The course covers both theory and field techniques, emphasizing how these geophysical methods are applied to exploration and resource management.

Objective

By the end of the course, participants will be able to understand

  • Understand the principles of gravity and magnetic methods in geophysical exploration.
  • Learn how to acquire, process, and interpret gravity and magnetic data.
  • Be able to apply gravity and magnetic data to identify geological features and potential resource deposits.
  • Gain practical knowledge in analyzing anomalies and making exploration decisions.
  • Understand the integration of gravity and magnetics with other geophysical and geological data for enhanced exploration outcomes.
Audience
  • Geophysicists and exploration geologists working in mineral, oil, and gas exploration.
  • Petroleum engineers and geoscientists involved in subsurface exploration.
  • Professionals in the mining and energy sectors who need to understand geophysical methods.
  • Explorationists, project managers, and other professionals who are responsible for interpreting and using gravity and magnetic data in resource exploration.
