Introduction

This course will equip drilling engineers and professionals with the knowledge and techniques required to predict subsurface pressures during drilling operations. Accurate prediction of subsurface pressures is crucial for ensuring safe and efficient drilling operations, preventing wellbore instability, and optimizing drilling performance. The course covers the principles, methods, and tools used to predict pore pressure, fracture pressure, and kick detection, alongside the importance of pressure management in good control and drilling safety.

Objective

By the end of the course, participants will be able to understand

  • Understand the concepts and importance of subsurface pressure prediction in drilling operations.
  • Learn the key factors influencing subsurface pressures, including geological formations and fluid dynamics.
  • Gain hands-on knowledge of methods used for predicting pore and fracture pressures.
  • Understand the role of real-time pressure monitoring in drilling safety and well control.
  • Develop skills in pressure management and mitigation strategies during drilling operations.
